Donald Trump and his Capitol Hill Cronies want to slash the budgets of income security programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the National School Lunch Program by 892 billion dollars by 2027. They do this knowing full well that, despite increasingly draconian measures to keep our fellow Americans in need off the rolls, more and working families in rural and urban America have been forced to reach for a hand up to make sure their children don't have to go to bed hungry.
The rapid rise in unemployment of middle-class Americans, stemming from the massive layoffs during the Great Recession (Which Main Street American's didn't cause) triggered a substantial increase in enrollment in programs such as SNAP. Despite the recession being "over" enrollment has largely maintained its level mid-recession levels. People are still hurting, children are still hungry, and we aren't going to stand for it.
With this in mind, I ask you to join me in signing this open letter to President Trump, Paul Ryan, and Vicky Hartzler. Together, our voices will be deafening. We will let them know that We Will Not Stand Idly By while our fellow American's are left to suffer.
They will insist that they need to cut these programs so they can afford to fund their kickbacks to their fat cat donors but we will just raise our voices louder until we cannot be ignored. The life, health, and dignity of a working family in America have no place on the budgetary chopping block, least of all to pay for a third yacht.
